Luke got a bike for his birthday. Cora received a bike for her birthday and she needed someone to keep her company.
From the moment he saw it he has been in love with it. He jumped right on and rode around the house about 100 times. The bike was a few days late due to mechanical issues. The first bike we brought home was broken, the second bike was bent, and after three trips to Toys R Us we finally had a usable and safe bike.
Cora was happy that Luke has a new bike because she has had some trouble with hers. She had a bad crash and has been panicked to ride much. Watching Luke jump on his bike and take off seemed to be all the motivation that she needed. Below is Grandad helping Luke learn how to use his brakes. Luke tried to use the "Fred Flintstone" form of brakes. Dragging his feet. He also would ride into the grass and jump off before crashing into something. With a little practice he seems to have the hang of it.
Since his first ride we have ridden EVERY DAY. Up and down the 400 yards of the driveway. I finally drew a BIG stop sign at the end of the driveway so that they would know where to turn around and I wouldn't need to go with them every time.
We have gone to the Fairgrounds park and the kids have done some laps on the one mile paved path. This weekend we are going to take the bikes to the Western Maryland Rail Trail. I am going to run while Dave, Cora, and Luke ride their bikes. We are not sure how far they will make it but we will give the flat path a try and see how it goes!!
