My father brought us strawberry plants from his garden so we needed to make a strawberry bed.
Luke really believed he was a big help! Most of the dirt landed on the ground around the bed but some of the shovel loads actually hit their mark. If you look in the background of the picture above, you can see the raspberry bed to the left, blueberry bed toward the back, and the blackberry bed toward the right. This is a good area for berry plants, a good mix of sun and shade and there always seems to be moist soil (unless in a severe drought).
Dave brings out the strawberry plants that my dad brought us and then Cora comes out to help too.
The planting goes well, most of the plants end up properly distanced apart and we have more than enough to fill the bed.
Turned out to be more fun then I thought and not as hard as I thought it would be. Our soil is REALLY rocky so I envisioned the pickaxe and lots of sweat, but the raised bed made life a lot easier.
The kids are responsible for watering their strawberries once a day. They fill a bucket and then use the bucket to fill their watering cans.
Chores turned into a family affair definitely made it much more tolerable!!!
