Beach Visit

OCEAN CITY, MARYLAND
Summer means a visit to my parents house in Princess Anne, Maryland and also to my sister's in Salisbury, Maryland as well as a stop in to Ocean City, Maryland. 
 There is no shortage of beach places and water considering they are on the Eastern Shore.
 The twins Molly and Landon are getting bigger and bigger.  Hard to believe they are almost three years old!!
 Cora LOVES playing with her little cousins and is constantly trying to organize games with them.  Below is a picture of everyone with Gigi.  Not easy to get everyone looking at the camera!
 While we were there we split the time between my parents house and my sisters house but went to my parents for a Fathers Day Lunch.  The kids were inside and outside, preferring to watch a movie on the iPad instead of the many large TVs in the house.
 One of their favorite activities is fishing.  Not real fishing yet but fishing for minnows in the baby pool.  My Dad sets out his minnow trap and then fills the baby pool, around 40 minnows swam for their lives around the baby pool as the kids did their best to catch them.
Maryland Blue Crabs were on the menu for lunch.  My dad put out his crab pots overnight and caught between one and two dozen crabs.  Just enough for a nice snack.  Not many of us like to pick crabs for too long. 
 This year the adults spent most of the time feeding the kids.  ALL OF THEM decided that they LOVE CRABS!!!!!  So the kids walked around between the adults like little birds begging for food, sharing their rewards with each other!!
 My dad is missing from his fathers day lunch because he was at Urgent Care, he was bit by a spider which swelled up his entire hand - ended up on antibiotics for a week.  He wasn't sure he should go until my sister and I got upset at the swelling!  Sorry you had to miss it Dad!!

After lunch it was off to the Ocean City Boardwalk for some games and junk food!
 Poor Luke, the flashing lights and noise was too much for him - he was OVERSTIMULATED and needed out!!  Everyone else seemed to find some games to play and one of the twins won a game that rewarded them with 900 tickets!! 
 As warm as the weather is there is always a strong ocean breeze that makes it seem cold.  So we stopped to buy sweatshirts, play on the playground, walked around, ate some pizza, popcorn, and ice cream. 
 It smells delicious but I am sure our stomachs will pay for these decisions the next day!!
 Cora played a squirting game and won a Scooby-Doo stuffed animal (you would think she won the lottery) and Luke later won a pillow pet from - which he quickly named "Hoppy" after all the frogs/toads he finds in his backyard!

On our last day it was time for a boat ride.  Finally the weather cooperated, it wasn't too windy or too hot, it was just right to go for a ride.
 Grandad does a nice job letting each of the kids drive.  We saw lots of birds and the kids really enjoyed looking them up on the computer when we got home. 
 Luke took driving the boat very seriously while Cora spent more time laughing then paying attention.
 After the ride we had to check the minnow trap to make sure that there would be pleanty of minnows to play with.  The kids LOVE minnows!  It makes me smile to see them get so happy over the minnows, I remember my Grandfather letting me play with minnows when I was a little kid when he used to take us fishing.  It is a good memory to have in their hearts!

Another great trip to the Eastern Shore.  I love watching the cousins play (and fight) and really enjoy watching the kids get excited about seeing their grandparents!

Statistics of Growing Children

Aug 2012 - First day of Kindergarten for Cora was spent at the doctor instead of at school - PinkEye. Both kids: Cora 47" (3'11") 44lbs. Luke 46"(3'10") 43lbs.

Jan 2012

Cora and Luke turn into twins. BOTH are wearing size 13 shoes and weigh 40 pounds. Cora is 44 inches, Luke is 43 inches.

Cora: 4 years 5 months: 40 lbs; 44 inches

Luke: 3 years 3 months: 39 lbs; 42 inches

Mom: 36 years old: 150 lbs; 71.5 inches

Dad: 40 years old: 175 lbs; 74 inches

Luke's 3 year old well visit. Flu shot. 2nd Lead Test.

Stats:
Height: 42 inches (off the chart)
Weight: 38 pounds (90th percentile)

Speech: I will contact school to ask for testing. No rush, but speech class looks to be in his future.

Luke's 2 year appointment:

No shots. Everything looks great. Doctor says all is well and our only concern is the temper tantrums that seem to be occurring more often.

Weight: 31 pounds (60th percentile)

Height: 38" (off the charts) {. . .if you double his two year height and "predict" his adult height Luke will be 6'4" tall!!]

Cora's 3 year appointment:

She started to get nervous when I told her about the appointment but I was very firm and told her not to cry and that she was going to be brave. Both the nurse and two doctors (one was an intern) said she is in great health, size and weight. They all also commented on her "advanced verbal skills." (I secretly wondered if they were saying that she NEVER stops talking?!) We will make a dentist appointment soon and probably start fluoride pills or treatments since we are on well water.

Weight: 34 pounds(75 percentile)

Height: 42 inches (off charts - about 115 percentile)

Currently wearing 4T dresses, 3T/4T shirts & shorts

Luke (19 months) had his 18 month appointment.

Weight: 28 pounds (75th percentile)

Height: 35.5" (off chart ;-)

Immunizations as scheduled - handled it well. Issues with a limp - will see specialist - hopefully will turn up nothing!

Luke (18 months) got new shoes - size 9XW!! (XW = extra wide)

Luke weighs 28 pounds - he was weighed at his sick visit on Jan 28, 2010.

Cora (2yr 8months) got new shoes - size 10!

December 2, 2009

Luke (16 months) had his 15 month check up.

Height: 34.5 inches (110 percentile - off the chart)

Weight: 27 pounds (75 percentile)

Another vaccine was given but we declined the flu vaccine. Dave and I discussed it and we are watchful of the flu but not worried. . . we are comfortable with the major vaccines but don't necessarily want to add two more (regular flu and H1N1) to the shots schedule.

November 2, 2009

Luke (15 months) got new shoes - size 8!!

He wears 18-24 month clothing.

Cora (2.5 years) didn't need a new size yet - size 9!!

Cora is in 3t pants and 3t or 4t shirts.

August 27, 2009:

Luke (almost 13 months) had his one year check up.

Height: 33.25 inches

Weight: 26 pounds

He received his shots/vaccines and handled them like a big boy. . . but his lead test was torture!! He screamed and had a tough time with it.

August 15, 2009:

Luke (12.5 months) got new shoes - size 7!!!! (The lady at the Stride Rite who has owned the store for 30 years said, "I have not sold many shoes this size for a kid this young.")

August 10, 2009:

Cora (age 26.5 months) got new shoes - size 9.

July 24, 2009:

Luke was grabbing his hears a lot so we decided to take him to the doctor to double check to see if he had an ear infection. Also, Cora has a mysterious rash that needed a doctor's quick glance. Turns out Luke has a small ear infection and Cora has just a basic children's rash - allergic to something she touched and it will eventually go away.

Luke: 25 pounds 3 ounces

Cora: 29 pounds

June 1, 2009:

Luke's "9 month" appointment (he is 10 months old but we wanted to schedule Cora and Luke for the same day):

He did great!! No tears - No problem!!

Weight: 21 pounds 6 ounces

Height: 32.75 inches

Currently wearing size 18-24 month summer clothes, sometimes fitting into 12-18 month.

Cora's "2 year" appointment:

She cried as soon as she got into the parking lot and didn't stop until about 30 minutes later - crying isn't a good description for the screaming and yelling that came from her little body! Cora finally calmed down to be examined by the doctor - all is looking great! She did get one shot . . .and she cried again. . . but when the nurse took the needle out she said, "No more hurt!" So she did get a few points for bravery at the end!!
