Once a month a few friends get together for Mom's Night Out, and once a year (starting this year) we head out of town to Deep Creek Lake for a girls weekend.
Cast of Characters from Right to Left: Laurie, Holly, Amy, Terra, and me. This picture was at our first dinner at Santa Fe Grill where we opened our gift bags full of silly fun.
Friday night we relaxed on the front porch of the cabin and enjoyed the fact that no one needed anything from us except to participate in the lively conversation as much or as little as we wanted. Friday evening ended with us all gathered around the TV for a movie night!
Saturday morning we got up and went for a ride - a horse back ride that is ;-)
Fitted for helmets and given a tour guide all of 14 years old - we rode the horses as they slowly walked around the hills and woods. It was an accomplishment for some to get on the horses because of a fear of the large animal but near the end of the ride we were experts; even allowing the horses a short gallop as we giggled and laughed.
Saturday afternoon was full of food, naps, canoeing, running, walking, reading, and getting lost. This is the weekend we all agreed to be each others "cheerleaders" as we are all going to run a 5K in October, maybe a "tough mudder" in November, and another 5K/15K in December. Holly is the expert runner with a few marathons accomplished so she is picking the races for us and we each have a running plan that we are following to get us across the finish line.
Saturday evening we got dressed up for dinner and headed out to the auction. The auction is a place where you can buy a case of Gatorade and a couch for the SAME PRICE!! You never know what you are going to see up for bid.
Holly and Laurie watching with amazement at what people are buying! We ended up staying here longer then we thought we would because it was hard to leave - we kept wanting to see what would come up next!! After the auction we went to dinner at SilverTree - which is owned by the same people who own Dutch's Daughter in Frederick. It was a delicious meal after which there was no place for us to go but back to the cabin to sleep.
Sunday morning we were up for a 9am tee-time. We had a golf tournament to play - a five person tournament! We played a scramble with teams of Holly and Amy against Laurie, Terra and myself! No shock that my team won ;-> Poor Holly and Amy were no match for Terra and Laurie!! (hehehaha)
After golf we returned to the cabin to clean up (thank you Terra!!) and pack ourselves to head home. One last lunch at Mountain State Brewing Company before we parted ways to return to our normal hectic lives!
I had a wonderful time and really appreciate the friendship with these wonderful women.
