3rd of July

Cora and Luke were ready to go to their first campfire.  Friends and neighbors had a pre-4th of July celebration and invited us to their house to enjoy the festivities.
Did I say that Cora and Luke were very excited!??!
The kids played on the swing set, in the sand box, badminton and ran around the yard.

Next came the smores!
Sam, Nick and Ms. Kathy showed the little ones how to do it!  Cora has never had smores  so she was excited because other kids were excited - but she didn't understand what a yummy treat she was about to eat!

I think she liked the chocolate part best!
Max enjoying a burnt marshmallow - the best way to eat them!!

Burning her hands, fingers, and legs - Ms. Kathy lit everyone's sparklers!!
Sam carefully spinning around his sparkler.
I showed Cora how to hold and wave the sparkler around.  She was scared at first but soon learned to hold it downward so the sparks don't land on you.

She ended up wanting "one more" a few times and laughed each time she had a new one in her hand.

Luke was a good sport for most of the evening - he behaved long enough for us to stay out until an amazing time of 9:15 before we had to pack it in and walk home.  On the walk home Dave mentioned that he couldn't imagine a better way to spend an evening!!  The kids had a great time and watching them do things for the first time seems to stay in our memories and hearts!
