On Wednesday, May 5, Luke went to the pediatric orthopedic to get Xray's taken. The appointment was at 2:30. Dave picked up the form to get the Xray's, went to the lab down the stairs from the orthopedics' office and after 15 minutes Luke went back for his Xray's.
Dave received his lead shield "skirt" that he put on so he could stand next to Luke while they took the pictures. The Xray technician took one of him standing on a block, one of him laying down on his back but after looking at the one standing - they had to remove the block - he was too tall to stand on the block.
When they were satisfied with the pictures they went back upstairs to the orthopedics' office. The Doctor looked at the Xray's and then called Dave and Luke back. He looked at Luke and they talked about what they saw when looking at Luke and what the Doctor saw when looking at the Xray's.
The Doctor said he saw, "nothing in the Xray that causes any concerns." He had Luke go into the hallway and run up and down to watch his gait (how he walks). Next, he told Dave that Luke looks O.K., that there may be 1/4" difference in leg lengths, but he does not see any current problems. When asked about Luke's "limp" the doctor said it just might be his gait for now. He did mention the hip on the right side is a little higher, but he feels it will correct itself. He wants to re-take Xray's when Luke turns three, but he does not foresee any issues.
Dave's friend is a chiropractor and we have been seeing him while waiting for Luke's orthopedic Xray appointment. He has been doing some adjustments. Dave took the Xray's to him, he reviewed the Xray's and came up with similar conclusions. Dr. Mike measured all the leg bones and paid close attention to Luke's hips. He will work on adjusting Luke's pelvis to help correct it.
This is such a strange result after being "prepped" for much worse. I was relieved and I cried after Dave talked to his friend Dr. Mike. I didn't really believe it was going to be O.K. until after Dr. Mike read the Xray's. While I believe the orthopedic doctor knew what he was talking about, I knew that Dr. Mike would do everything he could to make sure our son was O.K.! Hopefully Luke will learn to walk normally and things will work themselves out within his little body!!
